Mother Arrested On Neglect, Meth Charges After Traffic Stop

(VANDERBURGH CO.) – On Tuesday morning at 12:30 a.m. an Indiana State Police trooper on patrol on US 41 near St. George stopped a driver of a 1996 Toyota Camry for making an improper lane change.

The driver was 33-year-old Heather Mayers, of Evansville. Mayers had her six-month-old daughter in a car seat in the back seat. Her front seat passenger was 34-year-old Michael Fitzgerald, of Evansville.

The trooper found nearly 10 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of marijuana, a syringe and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Mayes and Fitzgerald were arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where they are currently being held on bond. The child was released to her grandmother.

Mayers is facing charges of neglect of a dependent, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia.

Fitzgerald is facing a charge of possession of meth.
