(BEDFORD) – Indiana State Police continue to investigate the death of a Lawrence County inmate.
According to the log, jail officials requested an ambulance at 4:49 a.m. Thursday, August 20th after a report of a male inmate found unconscious in J block.
ISP Sgt. Curt Durnil says the inmate’ has been identified at 45-year-old David Phillips, of Monroe County. He was booked into the jail on January 2, 2020 on a charge of dealing meth.
“The preliminary finding of the autopsy and cause of death is hanging by ligature,” said ISP Sgt. Durnil. “The investigation is currently ongoing.”
