Court Of Appeals Overturns John Myer’s Appeal

(BLOOMINGTON) – The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned John Myers appeal in the killing of Indiana University student Jill Behrman.

John Myers

Myers has served almost 14 years of the 65-year sentence for abducting and shooting 19-year-old Behrman while she was out riding her bike on May 31, 2000. For many months, the Bloomington community and all of Indiana rallied around efforts to find her. Behrman’s remains were finally found three years later in 2003 by hunters in a wooded area in Morgan County. An investigation revealed she died from a gunshot wound to her head.

In 2006, a jury convicted Myers of murder in connection with Behrman’s death.

In 2019, a U.S. district court ordered a new trial for Myers on the grounds that he received inadequate representation from his legal counsel.

Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit reversed that decision and denied Myers’ appeal upholding Myers’ conviction and sentence.

Myers is being held in Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.
