Two Arrested After Traffic Stop

(BEDFORD) – Bedford Police officers arrested two people after they received several reports of an erratic driver pulling a boat traveling west on US 50 near the city limits Friday morning.

An officer located the vehicle and stopped the driver, 34-year-old David Smith of Bedford, after witnessing them commit several traffic violations.

“The driver appeared to be intoxicated and admitted to drinking earlier in the day,” said Chief Terry Moore. “He performed poorly on three field sobriety tests.”

While an officer was field testing Smith, his passenger, 27-year-old Lillian Cobb, was offered a courtesy ride home.

“Before she was transported home officers asked if there was anything in her purse,” Chief Moore said. “Cobb told officers she had methamphetamine and a smoke pipe in her purse. Officers confirmed those items and she was taken into custody.”

Cobb was arrested on charges of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia. Smith is facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI endangerment.
