Fire Damages Government Building in Sullivan

(SULLIVAN) – A fire damaged a building next to the city hall and adjacent to the Sullivan Fire Department this morning.

The fire was called in just after 3 a.m. according to Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom. The caller reported seeing smoke and flames showing from the two-story building near 12 North Court Street.

The building housed Sullivan County Community Corrections and two law offices.

The fire did not spread to City Hall or the fire station, but those buildings did have some smoke and water damage.

Investigators have not determined a cause.

Just before 7 a.m. this morning, crews were still on the scene and heavy smoke was seen blanketing the nearby area.

Officials say that power was knocked out to several residents.
