Bedford Parks Department Gearing Up For Spring – Softball Sign-Up Underway

(BEDFORD) – People are ready for spring sports and softball sign-ups are fast approaching.

  • Bedford Softball Association All-Nighter Softball Tournament registrations will begin on March 2nd. Entry fee is $325. Contact the Bedford Parks Department to register.
  • Adult Softball Summer League registration deadline is April 13th at 4 p.m.
  • Umpire Clinic will be April 18th at 9 a.m. at the FOP building. The fee is $75.
  • Coaches Meeting is scheduled for April 28th, at 7 p.m. at Wilson Park Shelter.

The next Park Outdoors series program is February 25th at 6 p.m. at the Wilson Park Shelter House. Evie Phelps with the United States Forest Service will give a presentation on invasive plants. RSVP at the Park Office.

The Mother & Son Nerf War event is March 6th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Tickets are $20 for one mother and one son and $25 for two sons.

The Father-Daughter Dance was a success with more than 500 people attending this year’s event. Special thanks were given to Claire Robe, Natalie Smith, and Magic Morning Bakery, and a huge thank you to the First Baptist Church.

The first session of the adult volleyball has concluded, the second session signup deadline is Friday, February 21st.

The men’s basketball season was successful and concluded this week.

A golfer takes a swing at Otis Park

Otis Park:

  • The final stages for disc golf are being finished up, with the T-Pads being poured tomorrow or as soon as the weather breaks.
  • The search for a Golf Pro is still underway. Anyone interested can apply with a recruitment screening being conducted next week.
  • Stumps and old trees have been removed at Otis Park.

Repairs of the Red Brick may soon get underway after the adjuster releases the property. The Parks Department is waiting on Historic Appraisal before opening up bids for repairs.

Improvements are still being made around Beech Grove Cemetery.

Parks Department employees have also been cleaning up the area around Beech Grove Cemetery around the chapel. In addition, lights have been added around the flag pole and the chapel.
