Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford man was arrested after a Bedford Police officer stopped a vehicle he was a passenger in for a traffic violation at 29th and Illinois streets Tuesday night.

“The officer stopped the vehicle driven by 28-year-old Felicia Shirley after she threw a burning cigarette out the window,” said Chief Terry Moore. “Shirley told the officer she did not have a valid license which was confirmed through the BMV.”

Shirley and the passenger, 36-year-old David Thomas, gave consent to search their persons and the vehicle.

“Officers located what later tested positive for methamphetamine on Thomas,” said Chief Moore.

Thomas was arrested on a charge of possession of meth.

Shirley was issued a summons to appear in court on a charge of driving while driver’s license suspended with a prior conviction and a citation for throwing burning material from a vehicle.
