CareSource Provides $10,000 to Expand Shalom Health Care Center Services

(INDIANAPOLIS) – CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan, has committed to a sponsorship of $10,000 to the Shalom Health Care Center, a primary care clinic serving vulnerable populations including low-income, under-insured patients across Indianapolis. This donation will go towards funding a Shalom Mobile Unit, which will be deployed in areas to serve in various capacities, including mental health, behavioral health, substance abuse and other addictions, HIV and other screenings and other preventative and acute care in the community.

“At CareSource our mission is to make a difference in our members’ lives and in the community by improving overall health and well-being,” said Steve Smitherman, Indiana CareSource President. “The Shalom Mobile Unit will do just that by breaking down transportation barriers and stigmas associated with certain treatments and by offering a safe zone for patients to receive those treatments.”

Once complete, Shalom’s Mobile Unit is anticipated to be on Indianapolis roads in neighborhoods, schools, fairs and other community events on a daily basis. The expected date of completion for the Mobile Unit is in early November of this year.

“One of our main goals at Shalom is to continue to provide quality health care to this vulnerable population in the Indianapolis area,” said Andy Niño, Chief Financial Officer for Shalom Health Care Center. “Because of assistance from organizations like CareSource, we can make this goal a reality.”
