Former Sheriff’s Lieutenant Charged With Beating Man

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry has announced criminal charges against a former sheriff’s lieutenant accused of beating a man who had been in a relationship with the mother of the officer’s children.

Curry said Thursday that John Dorsey has been charged with official misconduct and two counts of battery stemming from an arrest in Indianapolis in which the officer allegedly struck the man between the legs while searching him and struck him again while transporting him to the Marion County Jail.
Dorsey was arrested Friday, the same day he was fired from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He worked in the department’s sex offender registry unit and had been with the department for 11 years.
