Diane Elkins Wininger of Crystal, IN is the featured artist for this time period. She is a professional studio artist and art director.
Art has been a part of Diane’s everyday life from a young age. Growing up with an artistic family, her father always kept chalks, pads and other media available,”Wininger says. “Her father also played guitar and other instruments and both parents sang in a traveling church choir. So sending Diane for piano lessons at a young age was a given and she loved the piano. She has played for churches since she was 12 and continues to be a church pianist and vocalist.”
“Painting, drawing, and music have been my life. Mother is an award-winning seamstress and we created many fashions. I actually began my studies to be a fashion designer which turned into a fashion illustrator. There’s a certain intangible feeling I get from certain sets of musical notes and also when I paint I try to get the same feeling. It is something that moves me and is beyond the mechanicals of the instrument or brush. It takes a person to a place away from the present.”
Diane has worked in many mediums. Currently, she works with watercolor, pastel, drawing, and photography. She works primarily out of her studio near Crystal and does most anything that is art related including commercial photography, art direction, consultant, illustration, graphics, publishing, painting and art event coordination.
Diane’s degree is in commercial art with an emphasis in life drawing as well as other studies of fine arts. She was creative director and color specialist for retail and wholesale catalogs for over 20 years as well as art director for the
photography studios. She is a past artist-in-residence for the Jasper Community Arts Commission.
Prints of her architecture drawings of historic places are available at the Jasper City Mill, The Dubois County Museum and the French Lick Resort. Many of her paintings are in private and public collections.
The guild will also have a collection of their artwork as well in the gallery walk. All artwork at the Jasper City Mill DCAG Gallery Walk is original and for sale.
