Shuttered Lake, Dam Should Reopen This Fall After Changes

(HUNTINGBURG) – Shuttered lake that was closed two years ago due to flood damage should reopen this year if its operators make state-sanctioned changes.

The Huntingburg Conservation Club’s lake and part of a Dubois County road that crosses its dam were closed in spring 2017 after heavy rains washed away soil around part of the dam.
But The Herald reports the lake should reopen this fall if changes specified by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are made to it and the dam.
The DNR’s plan includes lowering the lake about 5 feet, installing a new culvert and repairing the dam’s spillway.
Conservation Club President Bernie Main says the changes will cost an estimated $50,000. He says they’ll reduce the lake’s size but make it more affordable for the group.
