Bedford Man Struck By Vehicle At 15th And J Streets

(BEDFORD) – A male was injured after he was struck by a vehicle at 15th and J streets on Friday afternoon.

According to a Bedford Police Department report, 77-year-old John Callahan was walking north on J Street and was crossing the street at the intersection of J and 15th streets and was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 33-year-old Jasmine Purtlebaugh, of Orleans.

Purtlebaugh told police she did not see Callahan crossing the street and proceeded through the intersection turning right onto 15th Street. Purtlebaugh told police she attempted to stop, but could not stop in time and struck Callahan with her vehicle knocking him to the ground.
Callahan’s hand was bleeding, and he suffered a bump and scrap to the top left side of his head. Callahan was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bedford Hospital for treatment.
Police cited Purtlebaugh for driving without a valid driver’s license.
Assisting at the scene were St. Vincent Dunn Hospital ambulance crew and Bedford Fire Department first responders.
