Indiana Department Of Revenue Processes More Than 100 Individual Tax Returns A Minute

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indianapolis is often associated with speed given that the Indy 500 is the greatest spectacle in racing. Speed is often not associated with the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) — that is, until it’s tax refund time.

DOR has already processed over 1.4 million individual tax returns this season–processing over 100 per minute, which is a speed any racer can get behind!
As the 2019 individual tax season reaches its halfway point with a filing deadline of April 15, DOR has been busy issuing over 930,000 tax refunds with over 87 percent being issued within 14 days or less. Those who file electronically are receiving refunds even quicker with an average processing time of fewer than 11 days.
“Filing electronically and choosing the direct deposit option is the quickest way for customers to get their refund,” explained DOR Commissioner Adam Krupp.
“With an average turnaround time of fewer than two weeks, customers are getting their refunds faster thanks to our hard-working DOR team members meeting the processing demands of tax season. I couldn’t be more proud of our team and how fast they are helping our Hoosier customers.”
Individuals filing by paper are receiving refunds in an average of 20 days–22 days sooner than the 2018 tax season.
“The average individual refund issued by DOR has been just under $300,” said Commissioner Krupp. “Getting this money into people’s hands by processing tax returns efficiently and securely is one of DOR’s top priorities.”
To find the status of a refund DOR offers several options:

  • Go online. Use DOR’s online Refund Status Interactive Tool found on DOR’s website at dor.in.gov by clicking on “Learn How” under “Check the Status of Your Refund Online or by Phone.”
  • Call the automated line. Don’t have internet access? DOR offers an automated refund phone line at 317-233-4018.
  • Visit or call a district office. Looking to talk to someone in-person? DOR’s district offices and phone lines are open 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
