Norma Anabel Terry, 87, of Silverville, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital. Arrangements are pending at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
Carol Mae Todd – Bedford
Carol Mae Todd, 81, of Bedford, died at 7 am on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born March 17, 1933 in Jackson Co., she was the daughter of Isaac Carl and Jaunita Bernice (Allen) Feltner. She married Thomas Edwin Todd on September 30, 1950 and he preceded her in death on September 21, 2012. She was a homemaker and retired after thirty years as a co-owner and office manager for Todd’s Petroleum. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Dive Extension Homemaker’s Club and a past 4-H Club leader.
Survivors include two sons, Danny W. Todd and Thomas E. Todd II and wife, Carol Ann all of Bedford; a daughter, Deborah (Debbie) L. Craig and husband, Jerry of Bedford; special son, Cecil R. Blackwell and wife, Jeannie of Mitchell; four grandchildren, Daniel I. Todd and wife, Danielle R., Thomas J. “T.J.” Todd and wife, Mariah, Tina M. Todd, Trevor Craig and wife, Melinda; twelve great grandchildren, Chloe Rae Todd, Skyy J Shake, Zayne C. Shake, Addy G.M. Ratliff, Thairon Todd Ratliff, Thomas Bryce Todd, Landen R. Todd, Ty A. Craig, Trey H.T. Craig, Oakley Shaw, Dayton Shaw and Trenady Shaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Isaac Carl Feltner, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Monday, June 23rd the Englewood Baptist Church with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Knott Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, June 22nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11 am until the time of the service on Monday, at the Englewood Baptist Church.

Hollace D. Sherwood – Mitchell
Hollace D. Sherwood, 91, long time Mitchell teacher, passed away early in the morning June, 20, 2014 at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Hollace Daniel Sherwood was born on March 4, 1923 the oldest son of Hollace Chase and Dorothy Bryant Blackwell Sherwood on the family farm near Mitchell where his uncle, Dr. Walter Sherwood, delivered him. Educated first in Bryantsville and then Mitchell schools he graduated from Mitchell High School in 1940.
Hollace Dan, as he was known to both family and friends, and his younger brother by a year,
John Robert Sherwood entered Indiana University together in the fall of 1940. John Robert
continued his studies in music at IU but Hollace Dan transferred to Purdue University after
his first year with a goal to study vocational agriculture. Unable to enter the service due to poor eyesight, Hollace Dan attended classes in the shortened war semesters, closed the Purdue Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity as members left campus and also returned to work on the family farm. In the spring of 1945, he received his B.S. degree from Purdue in his intended major of Vocational Agriculture. He had met the love of his life, Ila Jane Reish of Francisville, Indiana, while at Purdue and they were married on November 24, 1945. Returning to the Mitchell area, he taught a variety of subjects at Mitchell High School, including agriculture but he had always had an interest in science and began teaching more science courses. He received one of the very early National Science Foundation Fellowships to increase his science knowledge at the University of Michigan where he and the family lived for the 1958-59 academic year. He received is A.M. from Michigan in the summer of 1959. Returning to Mitchell, he educated generations of students in Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science at the Jr./Sr. High School retiring from secondary teaching in 1985. In his later years, he and Ila taught for Vincennes University at both their Mitchell and Jasper centers and they continued this into retirement, teaching Chemistry to many students who were working towards nursing degrees of various kinds.
In 1984, Ila read about the famines in Ethiopia and shared her concerns with Hollace. Together with a set of committed individuals first from the Bryantsville Church of Christ and then other local and regional churches formed what became the Bryantsville Hunger Relief Project (www.bhrp.org). The project has grown since its inception in 1985 through dedicated volunteers and financial supporters. High protein corn is produced at cost on the Sherwood family farm and volunteers clean and bag it into approximately 60 pound bags, usually for a cost of about five dollars/bag. National organizations such as Feed the Children, worked with the BHRP, and were able to find ways to get truck and boat space donated to transport, first to Central America and the Caribbean, and then to over 25 countries across the world. As of last year, 158,592 bags of corn (about 9.5 million pounds) had been sent to needy families at no cost to them. Even after a stroke limited Hollace Dan’s strength and the death of his beloved Ila in 1999, the project has continued with the support of churches, other organizations, and many volunteers.
Hollace Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two of his brothers, John Robert of Cincinnati and R. Edward of Mitchell. One brother, James N. Sherwood, of LaCrosse Wisconsin survives. The surviving children include, Susan Jean Crawford (Warren) of Mitchell, Robert D. Sherwood (Linda) of Bloomington, and Elizabeth Joan Miller of Springboro, Ohio.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m.to 6 p.m. on Sunday June 22 at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with a Celebration of Life to be held at the Bryantsville Church of Christ at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 23, at Bryantsville Church of Christ with Brother Ken Wilson. Burial will be in Bryantsville Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bryantsville Hunger Relief Project, PO Box 1203, Bedford, Indiana 47421 or Lawrence County Community Foundation, PO Box 1235, Bedford, Indiana 47421 to benefit the Sherwood Family Scholarship that goes to a Mitchell High School student who plans to become a teacher.

Juanita E. Taylor – Bedford
Juanita E. Taylor, 82, of Bedford, died at 7:11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at her residence.
Born April 14, 1932 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Myron and Grace (Bex) Doane. She married Austin O. Taylor on March 16, 1951 and he died August 9, 1992. She later married Gordon Henderson on February 14, 1997 and he survives. She had worked for the Bedford License Branch and retired from Pleaser’s Restaurant and was a graduate of the Huron High School with the class of 1950. She was a member of the Port Williams Church of Christ and attended Dive Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon Henderson of Bedford, a daughter, Austina Marshall and husband, Bill of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Annette Taylor of Bedford; two granddaughters, Tara Marshall of Edwardsport and Katresha Taylor of Fishers, IN; a great grandson, Brayden Embree of Indianapolis; a brother, Jonnie Doane and wife, Peggy of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a son, Norm Taylor; a brother, Noble W. Doane; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Doane, a sister, Jeanette Bates and brother-in-law, Russell Bates.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 23rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday, June 23rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Shelby “Gene” King – Mitchell
Shelby “Gene” King, of Mitchell, passed away with his family by his side at 10:35 A.M. on June 18, 2014, at his residence.
Born April 14, 1945 in Lawrence County, Indiana, he was the son of Shelby M. King and Nehna (Hauser) King.
He married Loretta (Hillenburg) King on August 15, 1965; and she survives.
He was a Huron graduate, Class of 1963. He retired from Carpenter’s Body Works in Mitchell. He was a member of the NRA and a union rep for several years at Carpenter’s. He was a member of Fairview Church of Christ. He played for several years with his brothers in the local basketball league. Gene was an avid Purdue University fan. He loved racing, hunting, spending time outdoors, and being with his family.
Surviving are his wife Loretta, of Mitchell; one son Stacey (Darla) King, of Campbellsburg; five grandchildren, Logan (Valerie) King, of Shoals, Levi King, of Campbellsburg, Chase King, of Campbellsburg, Shanda King, of Bloomington, and Shayla King, of Bedford; two great grandchildren, Brayden King and June Harner; three brothers, Kent (Brenda) King, of Mitchell, Vincent (Genia) King, of Mitchell, and Randy (Debbie) King, of Mitchell; two sisters, Tonya (Steve) Davis, of Orleans, and Annette (Mike) Neely, of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Heath King; and one brother, Tim King.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 11a.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Brother Richard Holt officiating. Burial will be in Port Williams Cemetery.
