The following obituaries were received for Friday –


Michael A. Harding – Shoals
Michael A. Harding passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. He was the son of Wanda (Stiles) Harding and the late Leo Harding. He graduated from Shoals Community Schools in 1977 where he was an outstanding athlete. He graduated Southeastern Jr. College in 1979 where he played baseball as a shortstop and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1981 where he played baseball as a third baseman. Michael taught school in Kentucky for 10 years before returning to Shoals. He taught at Shoals Jr.-Sr. High School for 20 years. His life was devoted to the school and his students. He was a high school business-computer teacher and had done the yearbook and the school newspaper. Over the years, he also coached baseball, basketball, volleyball and cross-country.
Survivors include his companion of 20 years Terri Gammon; parents Wanda Harding; sisters Janice and her husband Jeff Horney, of Loogootee, Debra Harding, at home; brothers Eric and his wife Cynthia Harding, of Lafayette; sister-in-law Patty Harding, of Shoals, Nieces Amorecna Pitts, of Madison, Ala., Morgan Harding, of Lafayette; Nephews, Aaron Harding, of Minneapolis, Minn, Jesse and Justin Horney of Lafayette; great niece, Tru Pitts, of Madison, Ala.; great nephew Vincent and Remy Harding, of Minneapolis, Minn.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Shoals High School Gymnasium from 1 to 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Michael to the Leo Harding Memorial Fund with the Martin County Community Foundation that is a fund that supports the Shoals Community Schools’ Harding baseball field. Envelopes will be available at the visitation.
