(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Todd Wellemeyer took a shutout into the eighth inning as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants 5-2 to earn a split of the four-game series at Busch Stadium.

The cardinals scored three runs in the first off former CY Young award winner Barry Zito.

They chased Zito in the fifth when Ryan Ludwick capped a two-run rally with an RBI single.

Ludwick finished with two runs batted in.

Wellemeyer kept San Francisco off the scoreboard until Aaron Rowand hit a two-run home run with one out in the eighth.

That would be all for Wellemeyer, who allowed two runs on seven hits to even his record at 7 and 7.

Zito took the loss to fall to 4 and 8.
