Police Using Facebook Lead In Search For Missing ISU Student
(TERRE HAUTE) - On his “Facebook” page, there’s a picture of missing Indiana State University senior Gerald Smith of Avon near a CSX railroad truss bridge across the Wabash River.
Taking that as a possible lead, university police and student volunteers searched several square blocks between the bridge and the west edge of the campus in Terre Haute Monday.
It was the third search in the same area. They have also looked in the downtown area and a city park. So far, say police, they have found nothing.
Smith was last seen about 1:00am Friday, May 1st. He declined a ride home after leaving a bar where he'd been drinking with friends.
University Police Chief Bill Mercer says he's concerned. He says the search has turned up "no evidence of any kind."
