Everything Seems Fine In Mexico...Indiana
(MEXICO) - Mexican tourism is suffering because of the swine flu outbreak, but all is well in Mexico, Indiana.
Mexico Baptist Church Pastor Charles Cole says the town's founders were impressed by the rebels who fought for Mexican independence in the 19th century and that's why the town is called Mexico. But don't expect to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Indiana's Mexico.
The town really comes alive near the Fourth of July for their annual community yard sale and fireworks display put on by Mexico's Lions Club.
Pastor Cole also says the swine flu outbreak isn't a big deal in Mexico, Indiana either. He says some members of his congregation are hog farmers and the pastor says they just shake their heads whenever he brings up the subject.
The Miami County town of a thousand people is located five miles north of Peru.
