Downtown Indianapolis Fire Ruled Arson

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Authorities investigating the Cosmopolitan on the canal fire in downtown Indianapolis have determined the blaze was arson.

ATF Special Agent Kim Riddell says all accidental and other caused have been ruled out in the case and officials believe the fire was intentionally set.

Riddell no other information about the fire is being released because the case is now a criminal investigation.

Approximately 20 members of the national response team for the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives came to Indianapolis from across the country to assist local authorities in the investigation.

Riddell says the bureau will continue to aid in the investigation as federal and state arson charges are a possibility in this case.

Officials are asking for the public's assistance in this case.

Anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious around the time the fire was reported at 3:20am March 12th or a few hours prior to that time is ask to contact police.

Information leading the arrest of the person or persons responsible is eligible for a reward of up to 1-thousand dollars by calling Crimestoppers at 262-TIPS.

A reward of up to 9-thousand dollars is available through ATF by calling 1-888-ATF-FIRE.
