Woman Killied In Car Wreck, Are Police At Fault?

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A preliminary report clears an Indianapolis Metro Police officer of wrongdoing in the New Years Eve traffic accident that killed a pedestrian.

Investigaters have not finished their work.

The complete investigation into the death of 20-year-old Amber Raines of Beech Grove is expected sometime next week.

For now, officer Erin Ringham remains off the street --assingned to administartive duty.

She has been a member of the force for just one year.

The fatal accident crash team is talking to witnesses and compiling information about speed and location.

Officer Christopher Wilburn, A spokesman for the department, says the case is a tradgedy for all involved.

The victim was a mother of two.

Wilburn says the officer swerved but was unable to avoid hitting the young woman.

She was responding to a burglary report from a woman who told a dispatcher that three men were inside her home.
