(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is encouraging Hoosiers to think recyclable with this year’s Christmas wrapping.

Using reusable bags while shopping is the perfect present for mother earth.

IDEM's Amber Finkelstein says you can use fabric, newspaper and even Christmas bags from last year. She says if every American family wraps just three presents with reusable materials, that would save enough paper to cover 45,000 football fields.

Finkelstein says the amount of waste that goes out around the holiday's is up 25 percent.
