Lawmakers Propose New Teen Driver Legislation

(GARY) - State lawmakers will soon review proposed changes for teen drivers.
This as a Porter County magistrate decides whether to waive a 17-year-old Westville girl to adult court to face charges in the drunken driving accident that killed her best friend.
17-year-old Alisha Purnick died June 1 after her friend - crashed the car. Police say the young driver was using cell phone at the time.
The proposed legislation's would raise the age of registration - and require 50 hours of on-the-road curfew - among other things. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of teen deaths.
