"Firefighter For A Day" Teaches Kids Fire Safety
(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis Fire Department is holding its annual “Firefighter For A Day camp” at the Warren Township Government Center this week.
It's an opportunity for youngsters to learn and participate in hands-on fire and life safety evolutions.
During the camp, the kids, age 5 to 12, are experiencing the realistic emotions and conditions of a house fire and the correct ways to get out safely.
In addition to fire emergencies, the children are learning the important safety and life saving techniques that apply to a variety of emergency situations they could face in the future. "we teach them what to do if there's a fire in their home," said Indianapolis Fire Marshall Ernest Malone. "We teach them about playing with lighters and matches and being too close to the fireplace."
The camp runs through Friday. Approximately 100 kids attend each day.
