(TROY) - An Evanston man is behind bars after getting into a police chase that didn’t end until his pickup truck wound up…right in the middle of the Ohio River.

Jasper state troopers say an officer tried to pull over 25-year-old Joshua Peters for a burned out taillight, but when the cop turned around to make the stop, Peters' truck took off.

After a chase that went up and down several county roads, one cornfield, and involved at least two attempts to ram the squad car in reverse demolition derby-style, Peters would eventually wind up on Washington Street in Troy, Indiana, turn south, and drive his truck straight off the boat ramp and into the Ohio River.

Peters would eventually swim out of the passenger side window and swim to shore where he was apprehended and charged with resisting arrest by vehicle, criminal recklessness, reckless driving, driving while suspended and intoxicated and destruction of evidence.
