Vanderburgh County Sees Drop In Auto Fatalities
(EVANSVILLE) - There’s been a steep drop in the number of traffic fatalities in Vanderburgh County.
Only six fatalities have occurred compared with an average of 17 deaths a year. Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Dave Wedding credited federal traffic safety grants awarded to his department and the city police through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
The grants pay for extra deputies and police officers who patrol at different times throughout the year specifically for motorists violating some of the common causes of serious wrecks: driving aggressively, driving under the influence or without proper restraints.
