Janitors March To Negotiating Table
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapiolis janitors are back at the bargaining table talking about economic issues. They’re negotiating for better wages and affordable health care with the city’s largest cleaning companies.
The union says the majority of janitors have a four to six hour work day paying between $6.00 and $7.50 an hour.
The union enlisted help from local clergy and community leaders in a march to Eli Lilly prior to the start of negotiations. The janitors wore purple Service Employees International Union t-shirts, which read "SEIU for Obama".
They were joined in the march by 7th Congressional District candidate David Orentlicher and Bishop Tom Benjamin of the Light of the World Christian Church.
The 1,500 janitors return to the bargaining table Wednesday and Thursday.
