Indy Sees Birth Of Two Babby Falcons
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two eggs in the peregrine falcon nest in downtown Indianapolis hatched this morning and two others could soon hatch.
Laura James-Reim is a volunteer with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and considers herself a "falcon head."
Now that the chicks have hatched, they must fight to stay alive. Last year, two died. Indy's falcon family will spend the next several weeks in their nest, but will then pack up and fly away.
The proud parents are Kinney, the papa, and Kathy, the mama. The new arrivals have not yet been named.
Once the birds are named, they will be banded for future identification. Indiana has about 13 pair of peregrine falcons.
The birds, who soar at the top of the food chain, are off the federally endangered list, but are still considered endangered in Indiana.
