Deputy Recovering After Being Hit With Buckshot
(NEW WASHINGTON) - A Clark County Sheriff’s deputy is recovering from a gunshot wound after being shot by a man who later took his own life.
Sheriff Danny Rodden says Mark Meyer was ambushed and shot without warning by 33-year-old Douglas Frakes Jr.
Rodden says the 28-year-old deputy was hit by buckshot in the back of the head and upper shoulders and his injuries are not life-threatening.
Rodden says the deputy was shot late Monday as he stepped from his car while responding to a domestic dispute at a rural home in New Washington, about 20 miles north of Louisville, Ky. Frakes was found dead a few hours later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Rodden says the suspect fired at Meyers from behind a tree as the officer approached the home.
Other officers were able to pull the wounded deputy to safety.
