Under New Law, Sexual Predators Must File Online Identities
(UNDATED) - Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter says two new laws on the books will help his office and law enforcement further protect Indiana citizens and their families.
Effective July 1st, all register sex offenders will have to submit their e-mail addresses, and usernames for instant messages, chat room, or social networking websites. They will also have to re-submit the information whenever it changes.
Carter says the law will help police agencies in their investigations of online predators. Indiana is the only state to ban sex offenders from social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook.
The Attorney General says the Funeral Trust Protection Act corrects weaknesses in cemetery trust statues. The law protects money deposited by making those responsible for maintaining the trusts more accountable for the funds. It also gives the attorney general authority to recover misappropriated funds on behalf of any and everyone effected.
The previous law only allowed the specific fraud victim to seek any restitution.
