Thousands Of Fish Die During Dam Break
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis is trying to figure out why a dam in Eagle Creek Park malfunctioned over the weekend and killed a thousand fish.
The sudden rush of water from Lilly Lake into Eagle Creek itself threw dozens of fish onto the banks, where they died.
Parks Director Joe Wynns says there could be a malfunction in the manmade lake's drain or the valves for the dam, but it's more likely someone threw a valve the wrong way.
Wynns says there's no way to tell for sure until the next rain raises the water level again, perhaps at the end of the week.
