Strangers Rescue Girl From Submerged Vehicle
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Metro Police are calling them heroes—two men and a woman, a nurse, who helped rescue a four-year-old girl from a car submerged in a retention pond.
The driver, 38-year-old Albertina Lopez, couldn't get the girl out of her car seat.
38-year-old Vern Trabue and 40-year-old Shawn Dilick, both from Fishers, jumped into the water and carried the unconscious girl, Sara Lopez, to the bank. A woman identifying herself as a nurse arrived and performed CPR. The mother and her daughter are in stable condition now at Methodist Hospital.
Investigators say it appears Mrs. Lopez lost control of her SUV and spun out, sending the vehicle down the embankment and into the pond.
