Officers Save Woman From Deadly Blaze, Hailed Heroes
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two Indianapolis Metro Police officers are being hailed as heroes after rescuing a woman from Wednesday morning’s fatal house fire.
Officers Stephen Gorgievski and David Siefker dragged Yvette Williamson out of a home on the city's near North Side.
The two men say they went on adrenaline and pulled Williamson out. She was unconscious, but breathing.
Both say fires in that area are becoming more common because people are relying on space heaters for warmth.
Both men were working the graveyard shift when the call for help came. At times, it was hard to see as they searched the house for people.
Two people were killed, including the sister of an Indianapolis fire fighter.
Investigators think a kerosene heater exploded in the house.
