Danville Man Stands Up For... Bats?
(DANVILLE) - An Indiana man plans to sue in an effort to halt the final leg of a $4.9-billion dollar natural gas pipeline that he contends would harm the endangered Indiana bat.
The Rockies Express pipeline would cross Dave McCarroll's 60-acre property outside Danville, just west of Indianapolis. His land includes wetlands populated with Indiana bats in the summer.
McCarroll has filed a letter of intent to sue to halt the project, saying it would destroy the bat's habitat.
A portion of the 639-mile pipeline will cross nine Indiana counties, and the Indiana bat is found in each of those counties.
The Indiana bat is one of the most endangered terrestrial mammals. Its numbers have declined nearly 60% since it was listed as endangered in 1967.
