Man's 100-Year Jail Sentence Upheld
(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Anderson man’s 100-year sentence for molesting an 11-year-old girl is being upheld by the Indiana Court of Appeals.
36-year-old Louis Harris was first convicted in 2004 of felony charges of child molestation for accosting an 11-year-old girl in 2003. The appeals court overturned that ruling and ordered a new trial after determining some testimony shouldn't have been admitted.
Harris was convicted again in 2006, and a judge once more gave him two 50-year sentences to be served consecutively.
In his appeal, Harris argued that testimony of him fleeing from police the night he was arrested shouldn't have been admitted at his trial and that the 100-year sentence was inappropriate because of his character and the nature of the offenses.
