(UNDATED) - State police are warning Indiana residents not to fall victim to scam artists who have been targeting local residents in recent weeks.

Victims have received telephone calls originating from the 876 area code in Jamaica claiming they have won "lotteries" or "found" monies in locations such Jamaica and Bulgaria.

The callers encourage the victims to wire money to various locations throughout the united states and other countries, ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars in order to collect their "winnings."

Police say never give out your social security number or birth date and never agree to send money--and remember: if it's too good to be true, it probably is.
