Mom Lies To Protect Boyfriend From Rape Charges

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis mom is accused of lying to protect her boyfriend from prosecution.
Crystal Newton is facing several charges for allegedly giving police false info about the man. Jose Oviedo is accused of raping Newton's five-year-old daughter and giving her herpes.
Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi says Oviedo disappeared at the end of last month, after the allegations came out. Brizzi would not say if Newton is now cooperating with them.
Child Protective Services discovered the girl's condition during a medical check.
Newton will have her initial hearing Friday.
