High Speed Chase Ends With Spike Strips
(HENDRICKS COUNTY) - A Lewis, Indiana man was arrested by police after leading them on a high speed chase along Interstate 70 that ended in a style reminiscent of your favorite extreme police videos show on TV.
State Police Putnamville got a call about a blue pickup that was flying down the interstate and almost rear-ended a semi.
Police would eventually find the truck and try to stop it, but the truck wouldn't slow down. As a matter of fact, the truck led police in a chase with speeds cresting 100 miles per hour for more than 20 miles.
The escapade came to an end, though, when police deployed "Stop Sticks," which are strips of metal spikes meant to destroy the tires of an offending vehicle.
The driver, 61-year-old Timothy Sharkey, was arrested in Morgan County and booked on a felony charge of resisting arrest with a vehicle, and lesser charges of reckless driving, following too closely and driving with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
