NWS Confirms Tornado Touchdown On Indy's Westside

(UNDATED) - It’s confirmed—a tornado did touchdown on the Westside of Indianapolis Tuesday night. That is the official word from the National Weather Service.

That tornado is most likely responsible for disrupting power to nearly 10,000 people in the city. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.

However, the same cannot be said for Southern Indiana. Two people, a mother and daughter lost their lives in Posey County when their mobile home overturned. Officials have not determined if the damage was caused by a tornado or straight line winds.

The historic Morgan County Courthouse in Downtown Martinsville took extensive damage during Tuesday night's storms. Part of the roof was blown off. The courts were closed Tuesday and emergency officials spent the day doing damage assessments and beginning the clean-up effort.

David Skaggs is with Morgan County Emergency Management. Skaggs says the hardest hit part of the county was in and around Martinsville.

Skaggs says it's hard to see a building like the courthouse in shambles. The courthouse was built in 1857. Parts of Morgan County remained in the dark due to downed trees and power lines.
