(UNDATED) - The flood waters throughout Northern Indiana are disappearing, but there’s still concern.

Local health officials are reminding people to take an extra step to make sure they're safe by testing well water. Free well water test kits are being offered.

Marc Nelson with the St. Joseph County Health Department says when the water well gets flooded you have a strong likelihood of bacteria getting down into the well and that needs to be addressed.

The state health department is providing the testing for free, and the results come back in about a week. Residents are encouraged to check with their local health department for the test kits.
