Elderly Woman Dies In Attempt To Conserve Utility Bills

(MICHIGAN CITY) - LaPorte County authorities believe a woman trying to conserve money on utilities ended up dying.
61-year-old Stella Chambers was discovered under the covers in her bed. Police said Chambers had a hat and several layers of clothing on.
Investigators discovered the pilot light on her furnace was burning. However, the thermostat was turned off.
Hypothermia was ruled as the cause of death.
