(ELKHART) - An Elkhart neighborhood will get city water to replace the groundwater that a company acknowledges it polluted.

More than a dozen homes in the Meadow Farms subdivision will be hooked up to city water next spring at a cost of about one million dollars.

Geocel Corporation says it's responsible for the pollution and signed an agreement with state environmental officials to clean up the contaminated area in exchange for the state's promise not to take legal action.

Since June, residents have been advised not to drink or cook with their water and to bathe only in lukewarm water because heat can release contaminants.

Some residents say they're considering private legal action against the company.
