Woman Drops Off Baby At Hospital, Protected Under "Safe Haven" Law

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A woman recently dropped off her newborn baby at an Indianapolis hospital, using the “Safe Haven” law.
This comes just days after a Plainfield teen was charged with murder for attempting to get rid of her newborn while at school in Louisville.
Community East Hospital President Anita Harden says she believes there is not enough awareness about the "Safe Haven" law and how it works. The law was enacted in Indiana in 2000 and allows a woman who just gave birth to leave her baby at a hospital or fire or police station, with no repercussions.
Harden says this is the first time there's been a case like this at Community East.
