(UNDATED) - The state is threatening to withhold property-tax relief money from 23 counties for not turning in assessment data on time.

The Department of Local Government Finance has been warning of the move for months.

The numbers were due nearly two months ago, and the DLGF says it can't properly set next year's tax rates without knowing those values.

The agency has already granted one extension, but Spokeswoman Mary Jane Michalak says the state will withhold property tax replacement credit funds from any county that doesn't turn in numbers by December 10.

The state is also threatening to revoke the certification of county assessors in those counties. The counties that have fallen behind include Boone, Hendricks and Johnson.
