(NOBLESVILLE) - A Westfield police officer will stand trial on charges he took cash from several Hispanic drivers who wanted to avoid traffic tickets or jail.

Lieutenant Scott Fross was arrested last month on four counts of armed robbery. He is a 10-year veteran of the Westfield police department.

Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Carter says each count stems from Fross stopping Hispanic motorists while armed and in uniform and threatening the drivers with arrest if they didn't pay him.

Fross resigned after being suspended from duty without pay. He has denied the charges.
