Terre Haute Police Take Mayor's Comment As Threat
(TERRE HAUTE) - Some Terre Haute police union members took Mayor Kevin Burke’s words during a recent event as a threat, the union president said.
Though Burke said no threat was made or intended. The local international union of police associations hosted an event Oct. 16, during which Curke and Republican mayoral candidate Duke Bennett spoke to members.
Burke reportedly told the group they should not endorse a mayoral candidate in the general election, thus putting them in a better position to work with whatever administration is working in January.
The mayor said what he told them, "...was that I felt ... that the best way for the union to represent themselves was to be in a position that they could work with whomever won the election."
