Students Infected With Staph Still In School
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Several students in IPS have the same rare form of staph that has a substitute teacher in quarantine.
IPS Spokeswoman Mary-Louise Bewley says students are being treated at Floro Torrence Elementary, Jonathan Jennings Elementary, and Tech High School. A student was also infected with MRSA at the start of the year at the Key Learning Center.
Bewley says the school system is reminding everyone not to panic. The students are being treated with antibiotics.
Bewley says parents have been notified and IPS is asking students and staff to wash their hands regularly throughout the day.
The infected students are still in school and are not contagious, as long as they keep their wounds covered.
MRSA is an antibiotic-resistant strain of staph.
