New State Police Hit The Streets

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Members of the largest recruit class in state police history have gotten their patrol.
Nearly 120 officers got their wheels and went off to their assignments.
State Police Spokesman Dave Bursten says half the department is eligible to retire -- not all of them will, but the department is hustling to build up its numbers. Bursten says another 75 recruits are in training and will go into the field later this year.
Even with the new class, state police still have more than 100 spots to fill. The state police are authorized to have more than 13-hundred officers. Bursten says the state is trying to get close to that number in the next couple of years.
