Man Eases Wife's Pain, Forges Prescriptions
(COLUMBIA CITY) - A Syracuse man who wrote phony painkiller prescriptions for his wife has been sentenced to two years in prison.
53-year-old Kyle Dietzen pleaded guilty to forgery. He told a judge his wife suffers from chronic, debilitating pain, and has undergone 13 operations in the last year. He says he got her extra pills because her real prescription wasn't enough.
Dietzen told Whitley Circuit Judge James Heuer his wife' pain drove him to do things he normally wouldn't.
Heuer says he imposed a relatively short sentence in view of the unusual circumstances, but says there's no excuse for forging prescriptions. Dietzen could have gotten as much as 11 years
