Fog May Have Caused Wreck Involving Semi, State Trooper
(BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY) - State police suspect early morning fog may have been a contributing factor in a wreck that involved a semi and 3 other vehicles, including a state police squad car.
Shortly before 8:30 yesterday morning, state police began investigation of the wreck at US-31 and SR-7 in Bartholomew County.
Troopers say 27-year-old Sameer Nofal of Tinley Park, Illinois failed to stop his Freightliner semi, carrying around 20,000 pounds of car parts, at the red light at the intersection.
Nofal's semi was struck by a northbound pickup that had the right of way driven by 31-year-old Seymour resident Richard Hiatt, as a result, the semi was knocked into westbound traffic on SR-7 striking an Oldsmobile driven by 23-year-old Carrie Malone of Elizabethtown.
The Oldsmobile was struck head on and pushed back into a state police cruiser that was waiting in traffic.
Troopers wish to remind drivers to slow down and increase following distances during inclement weather.
