(MUNCIE) - A Muncie police officer is accused of battery with a deadly weapon after he struck the friend of his daughter in the head with a gun.

52-year-old Jeff Leist allegedly hit 24-year-old Robert McCallum in the head with his gun after finding him in his daughter's home. The gun had discharged in the incident.

Leist has been placed on administrative leave, with pay, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

Leist told dispatchers he came to his daughter's home because he could not get her to respond to telephone calls.
